Responsive Reading: Isaiah 11
2. … the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
3. And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
4. But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
5. And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be a true Christian Scientist. Certainly, I learn more each week here in Plainfield about what it takes. In reading the Responsive Reading today it occurred to me that since Jesus exemplified the Christ, then what was and is true about him must end up being true about me or anyone who strives to exemplify the Christ. Truth is always Truth, after all.
Because of this — and in line with the Daily Watch for this week (Watching Point 280, thank you!) — I must be sure to do all I can to be receptive to the spirit of the LORD resting upon me, to have the spirit of wisdom and understanding, and the spirit of counsel and might, and the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; to have quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: to not judge after the sight of my eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of my ears: With righteousness I must judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and I must smite the earth with the rod of my mouth, and with the breath of my lips I must slay the wicked. And righteousness shall be the girdle of my loins, and faithfulness the girdle of my reins.
I must admit, I don’t know what all of this means yet, but I do know I am in the right place to learn and to grow into this. I am grateful for this opportunity; these lessons; and, for learning that The Bible and Science and Health aren’t just accounts of what others have done and said — they are calls to action so I will “thoroughly learn and properly digest” (paraphrased from S&H, p. 84 in last week’s lesson) the Science behind them, and then live it. Thank you!
