Thorny ground

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    2. Matthew 13
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:

While reading this today, I was struck with the realization that my consciousness is not currently all one type of soil. Each angel thought coming from God does not always land on the good ground that brings forth fruit. If these seeds fall on some point of unhandled pride or fear or anger, then the blessings will not rise up.

Because of the recent discussions I see how thorny ground turns my own thought into a false prophet. By being unreceptive to the seed of Truth, I am turning to “a different source than the Bible, a different message than the Christ, and a different position where one is mastered by sin rather than seeking to eradicate it.”

This makes me even more grateful for practitioner support. There have been many times that I haven’t even been aware of this happening, yet my practitioner knew and called me on it. This has helped to clear those thorns away and get that seed growing.

I thank God for these lessons, and all this church offers, because I’ve spent enough time with barren fields. I am grateful also that these lessons become watching points for me to be aware of both the nature of the incoming thought (Is it spiritual or material?) and also the receptivity of the soil of my consciousness (Is there thorniness to handle?).

Christian Science is always practical! Thank you!
