"Thy law had been my delights…"

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    “Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.” Psalm 119

    (Websters Dictionary 1828)
    Delight: A high degree of pleasure, or satisfaction of mind; joy; not dependent on sudden excitement.
    Perish: To lose life in any manner; to wither and decay;
    Affliction: The cause of continued pain of body or mind, as sickness, losses, calamity, adversity, persecution.

    This line from this week’s Lesson stood out to me today. I saw how love for and obedience to God’s word is life and protection. God is Life. During a class, at Plainfield chruch, a participant remarked something to the effect that taking time to spend time with the word of God, prayer, communing with God is as breathing and we do not neglect nor forget to breathe. If I feel my joy waning or withering it is a red flag reminding me to keep my oil replenished. I ask, “How can I be obedient to something I do not know or practice? How can I delight in something without taking time to care for it?” Or perhaps I find out what I love by what I am cherishing, trusting, or spending time with. I am so grateful to learning practical tools and the many materials on our website to help us make God’s law our delight.
