“thy shade upon thy right hand“

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Regarding Psalm 121:5, “The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand” in this week’s Responsive Reading, I found, “Thy shade upon thy right hand. That is, always present with thee; or, as the Jewish Arab renders it, ‘Closer than thy shadow at, or from thy right hand.’ — Thomas Benton, in ‘Annotations on the Book of Job and the Psalms’, 1732.” From Biblestudytools.com
    Isn’t that wonderful.

That is wonderful. In the past I had researched the significance of the ‘right hand.’ What I learned was that the right hand was considered ‘dominant’ and thus synonymous with power; as used in this case God’s INFINITE POWER. Thanks for pointing out how ‘close’ that is to all of us:)
