Tread and Trample

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

l love the Golden Text this week, Psalm 91:13: “Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.” In the back of my mind, I always wondered how one “treads” and “tramples under feet ” lions and dragons (the snakes I got). This week’s lesson made it clear these “fierce creatures” really represent error, also called “ancient and modern necromancy alias mesmerism and hypnotism”, animal magnetism, mortal mind, etc. From Genesis to Revelation it is clear that they must be tread upon and trampled under foot else they loom bigger and bigger in our thought until we have a war on our hands. Easier to step on a puffed up adder nipping at one’s heels than a fire breathing dragon taking over one’s life. The Responsive Reading tell us how; “Resist the devil and he will flee from you”, “Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you.” (James 4: 7,8) and how to put on “the whole armour of God” as described in Ephesians 6: 13-17. Thank you for this powerful lesson and for this week’s Forum posts.

I’m glad you referred to the very first verses in Responsive Reading: “Resist the devil and he will flee from you”, “Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you.” My first thought was this says it all. And Jesus answered and said unto him, “Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
