Turning away

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“The effects of Christian Science are not so much seen as felt. It is the “still, small voice” of Truth uttering itself. We are either turning away from this utterance, or we are listening to it and going up higher.” S & H p. 323

    Turning: changing; winding, meander.
Deviation from the way or proper course.

This citations from our Bible a Lesson this week was a helpful reminder to me to be aware of where my attention is. Are my thoughts turning to God? During our Bible Study on Asa yesterday, during a discussion on what happen to him at the end of his reign, a participant shared that “we all experience the results of our mental state, where is your heart”. Another way I can think about it is being aware of my surplus thinking (also mentioned yesterday). Am I praying for an hour in the morning then allowing my thoughts to drift the rest of the day? Such as anxiety, pride, people pleasing, resentment, irritation, envy, etc. or drifting off and no longer alert to working for God. Am I getting caught up in the demands of the day?
My experience has been the more surplus thinking the more I am turning from God and when I am turning to God I save myself less retracing. If I want to be useful for God it would be better for me not to have be using my time for retracing my steps back to Him.
