walk humbly with thy God

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Below is part of a sermon by Spurgeon on walking humbly with God. What stood out most to me was the underlying importance of watching thought. Spurgeon includes important qualities in living this out in our daily life. I see this is really feeling God’s presence.

“Progress- Go forward, advance, not with a proud desire to excel your fellow-Christians, not even with the latent expectation of being more respected because you have more grace; but still walk, go on, advance, grow. Be enriched with all the precious things of God; be filled with all the fulness of God; walk on, walk ever. Lie not down in despair; roll not in the dust with desperation because thou thinkest high things impossible to thee; walk, but walk humbly.”

Spurgeon adds other qualities such as, Constancy- it doesn’t say, “Bow humbly before God now and then;” also the importance of confidence, pure motives, thinking rightly of thyself, gratitude! Certainly the opposite of fear, pride, hate and other negative thinking.

“dare to have Him as your daily Friend.”

“It ought to show itself in every act of life…think only of your Lord’s glory.”

    “Walk humbly with thy God.”
