Watch 29 growing towards the light, rooted in truth

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Gilbert Carpenter in watch 29, compares man’s spiritual growth to that of a tree in that a proper balance be struck between a man’s comprehension of the Truth, that part of the tree above ground and his demonstration of that truth, that part which is rooted below ground. He makes reference to Mrs. Eddy telling us we can only understand what we can demonstrate. I was particularly struck by his use of a tree to make this point. It is amazing to me that there is a place in a tree where decisions are made to grow down and root into the earth or grow up into the light. This divine intelligence insures not only the direction but the exact proportions necessary, both above and below ground, to create balance. Such harmonious design is a beautiful model for us to emulate. Growing towards the light, in greater understanding of God’s Allness while rooted in demonstrating that understanding, creating balance and harmony. How grateful I am for Divine Intelligence!
