What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
    Matthew 16

    On our website:

“Shortly after I began work in Christian Science, it came to me that the five wise virgins are the five Spiritual senses: intuition, hope, faith, understanding, and fruition. Science and Health, p. 206, 40th edition: ‘The five foolish virgins are material sense, or human belief,’ — ignorance, fear, doubt, dread, and despair. Page 62: ‘Spiritual sense is a conscious capacity to understand God.’”
“Five Wise Virgins — Five Foolish” From The Christian Science Journal, Vol. 7, No. 12, March 1890 by M. J. L.

I thought to myself this week, “What would I exchange for my soul(spiritual sense)?” This speaks to me of the instruction – “never off guard” -be ever watchful as we have been learning during our Bible studies, don’t go to sleep to the things of God!

From the 23rd psalm we can pray, “[LOVE] restoreth my soul [spiritual sense]: [LOVE] leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” see Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, page 577.
