“with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked”

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    1. Isaiah 11
4 But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

It struck me how, when interpreting this, it truly makes all the difference in whether one looks out in the world and sees everything as personal or impersonal.

Succumbing to personal sense, as I did before coming to Plainfield, had me see many minds, many bodies, many ‘truths,’ many ways to ‘love,’ ‘life’ was limited, ‘soul’ was contained within me, and hate and lack existed everywhere. Good was personal and so was evil. I saw myself as just what animal magnetism claims, that self apart from God. So interpreting the verse above I would have seen a poor person judged, a wicked person slayed.

Because of Christian Science, and learning to understand the impersonal nature of God, good, and the fact that each of us are divine ideas sent to be the expressions of Truth, Life, and Love, I have begun to see how “with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked” impersonal beliefs of mortal mind, that claim of a self apart from God. How grateful and joyous I become of that process of evil being self-destroyed when I see it does not affect anyone’s individual nature in God. Not only are we not affected, it is what would keep us unadulterated, making it possible to be “as little children.” (1)

Thank you very much for this lesson, and all that is taught here.

    (1) Matthew 18 : 3 — And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
