"…yet have I not declined from thy law."

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Psalm 119:51 “The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law.”

Ver. 51. Derision. David tells that he had been jeered for his religion, but yet he had not been jeered out of his religion. (Matthew Henry)

Their unhallowed mirth will not harm us … even as the moon suffers nothing from the dogs that bay at her. God’s law is our highway of peace and safety, and those who would laugh us out of it wish us no good.
    (William S. Plumer)

I am very grateful for all the recent instructions to turn to God for the strength we need for each day. Strength to do our tasks, face opposition, to stay the course, stand for what is right, keep our face as a flint toward God, the strength to keep active mentally alert so as not to – fall asleep to, depart, turn, swerve, taken from God’s law, His purpose, His plan.
The quote in our Lesson means to me anything that would appear to come between my relationship with God is “the proud” which hold “in derision” (mockery, scorn, contempt) this relationship. Since coming here I have witnessed that it can come in many different forms but the trickiest ones are cloaked in a pleasant or humanly attractive form. If I stick with the habit, routine, and structure of time with God, time with His people, right thinking and seeing and the many other tools given here based on the Bible and Mrs. Eddy’s writings it helps me keep close to God and His law.
