Thoughts for New Members

On page 2 of the Message for 1900, Mary Baker Eddy wrote: “The song of Christian Science is, ‘Work — work — work — watch and pray.’” As such, membership is not to be taken lightly or to be considered a passive experience. This work for the world is in no way social, but rather is up to each of us individually to do our part for the Cause of Christian Science.

Member Meetings

Three times a year we have our member meetings in January, May, and September. During these meetings, each activity leader gives a report as to the current state of their committee, and we also discuss the many things that God is doing through our Church. At the January meetings, we vote for Board of Trustees when appropriate. A member who has been active for one year has the right to vote.

Financial Contributions

Our church strives to offer all we do free to the world, but this work comes at a cost: Website hosting, printing supplies, building maintenance, and other monthly fees are the price of this missionary work, which every single month is reaching thousands of receptive hearts in 180 countries. For those who understand the vital importance of this church’s place in the Cause of Christian Science — and see the undeniable fruits of its labor — we ask for you to contribute as divine Love directs.

Volunteering

Give testimonies. Sign up to read a Fruitage. And then a Scriptural. Speak up at a Bible Study or Roundtable. Perhaps sign up to moderate a Bible Study. Submit a possible watch for consideration. There are also opportunities to proofread and also for translation work, if you have those kind of God-given skills.

Prayer, humility, and an honest desire to serve God will always guide you to your rightful place. “Living stones we, each in his place, May we be worthy such a grace” (Hymn 176)

Working with Practitioners

If you wish to become more deeply involved in Church work and service such as becoming a reader, then working with a practitioner is always beneficial for your understanding and progress. It will also enable you to handle the animal magnetism that would attempt to impede your growth and progress.

Unity Watches and Individual Watching

Any member may ask to be included in the Unity Watches and to be added to the watching schedule. It is expected that this individual has studied everything offered on the Watching tab of our website, and begun to work with Watches, Prayers, and Arguments given by Mary Baker Eddy as well as 500 Watching Points by Gilbert Carpenter. Watching is a pillar of this work, and all members are expected to give it the dedication that Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy have demanded of us.
