A bit more about Zacharias and family

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Here is some information about Zacharias and family that I happened upon yesterday. It filled in their story a little bit more for me.
“There is a tradition that [John the Baptist’s] father, Zacharias the high priest, was slain at the altar (Luke, 11: 51), because of his refusal to give up his child in obedience to Herod’s cruel edict which condemned to death all the infants in Judaea in order to kill the child Jesus. John was, however, hidden by his mother, it is said, in the desert, where he lived the life of an ascetic up to the time of his public ministry, which was cut short by his violent death for daring to rebuke Herod’s immorality.” Source, “The subject of religious ordinances is frequently referred…” by Annie M. Knott, February 1905 issue of The Christian Science Journal.
