“Children, have ye any meat?”

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.” (John 21:5)

Jesus lovingly called his disciples here, not men, but “Children.” They were like disobedient children, who in the absence of a parent, forgets their training and goes off to do their own thing. The disciples had returned to their old way of life, turning to the human mind way of thinking and doing, forgetting even Jesus’ miracles of the fishes and loaves that they had witnessed. No wonder they answered “No” when asked if they had any meat — spiritual nourishment and inspiration.

So Jesus had to bring them back to their right mind, turn them back to God, Mind — to cast their “net on the right side.” Once they did that, they drew in a multitude of fish (spiritual influx of good). But they weren’t to stop there; they needed to use this “food” to feed others. And it wasn’t until “they were come to land” — realized the purpose of this food, — that they recognized Jesus preparing food for them; he was always “feeding” all mankind. This is what they needed to learn to do with their spiritual “food.”

Thank you, Lesson writer, for this beautiful Lesson; it has helped me see that I need to be always ready to “feed the sheep” when opportunity comes.
