…insight and perspicacity

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

A knowledge of the Science of being develops the latent abilities and possibilities of man. It extends the atmosphere of thought, giving mortals access to broader and higher realms. It raises the thinker into his native air of insight and perspicacity.

    Perspicacity
    1. Acuteness of sight; quickness of sight.
    2. Acuteness of discernment or understanding.

I love what Mrs. Eddy is saying here: Christian Science is the only path to become what we were created to be. Not only – as seen in the definition of “perspicacity” – is this a continuation of last week’s lesson and Roundtable regarding eyes and ears, it also shows how to realize the following sentence from last week’s Science and Health passages:

    11. 486
Earth’s preparatory school must be improved to the utmost.

The language Mrs. Eddy uses goes from the grounded (“preparatory school”) and then ascends (“atmosphere of thought,” “broader and higher realms”), yet she never leaves me behind. There is always so much hope in what she writes, just as there was in what Christ Jesus spoke.

This must be at least part of why Christian Science is the Comforter: It doesn’t exist to tell us what we can’t have, but rather to show us what our “native air” is.

I am so grateful to this church and for these lessons, because I have felt steadily lifted by all I am learning here. Thank you!
