…like a tree planted by the rivers of water

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

    RESPONSIVE READING: PSALM 1
    3. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

I am very grateful for Parthens’ post from last week (November 11th, 2018), “There Is A River” for giving this preceding verse more clarity this week.

Using those definitions from the Glossary in Science and Health he mentioned, I feel that to “be like a tree planted by the rivers of water” means having “the true idea of God” (Euphrates) reign within me, while thoroughly acknowledging the rights of women (Gihon), understanding Divine Science (Hiddekel), and possessing “The love of the good and beautiful, and their immortality” (Pison). Plainfield is showing me both the necessity and the joy of taking in only those channels of thought (rivers) that come from God. How liberating!

It is such a blessing how each lesson builds on the previous, and the Forum posts, Bible Studies, and Roundtables have been a big part of gaining new insights and understanding steadily. Thank you very much to the lesson writers, and all who contribute each week!

Thanks for this post. “It is such a blessing how each lesson builds on the previous” applies to the Bible also. Reading this lesson daily I didn’t recognize how close the wording in Psalm 1 is to Revelation 22!! In the past I loved these items ‘separately’ but now can see them as the same Truth!!

Rev. 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
    2. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
    3. And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
    4. And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
    5. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.
