obeying the first commandment

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“The true understanding of God is spiritual…. It destroys the false evidence that misleads thought and points to other gods, or other so-called powers, such as matter, disease, sin, and death, superior or contrary to the one Spirit.”
This quote from Science and Health and included in the Thanksgiving lesson makes clearer to me the connection between obeying the commandment to have no other gods and denying and healing bodily ills, something I have found mystifying at times.
An illustration of the idea is included in the letter A. Kroeger quotes in the article Sight, “The cause of all loss and suffering is not because matter is diseased, but because of the breaking of the commandment, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Spirit) Keep the first commandment, separate sight from matter, restore it to Mind, where it belongs,…”
So according to Mrs. Eddy the solution lies in a correct understanding of God.
Thanks to the lesson writers and others involved for this week’s healing lessons.
