overcome evil with good

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

I have frequently been helped by Paul’s statement “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.” Divine good is the only real good, just so there is no misunderstanding with a human or personal sense of good. The supremacy of good is a basic concept in Christian Science, which is the “reality of all things brought to light.” All too often in this world is the appearance of evil met with a retaliation of more evil, which does not resolve anything, but rather impresses the picture of evil. “My soul doth magnify the Lord” is the inspired declaration of Mary of old. It is the courageous who love God and man enough to not fall for the temptation to respond to evil with more evil, but rather to stand steadfast and faithful with divine good, knowing it will work out the purposes of God. What a comforting truth it is to be assured that divine good is not only ever present, but is the only power, the only way to overcome evil.
