"Rejoice, because your names are written in heaven"

The Forum is dedicated to each week's lesson, and may be used to post questions, comments, and constructive replies that strive to uncover the inspired meaning of the text. The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible; make two short postings of the long posts or send the lengthy ones for publication in our Magazine or Newsletter. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“…rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20)

When Reg Kerry first visited our church, he gave a testimony which I’ve never forgotten. It included this verse from Luke. At the time I was new to Christian Science, and didn’t completely understand what it meant. However, thanks to the teaching I’ve received here in this church, I now realize that if I am so preoccupied with or focused on effect — physical healings (the loaves and the fishes), or even thinking that I personally have made a demonstration, — rather than focusing on Cause, knowing that God has done it — I’m missing the spiritual benefit, “the starting point of divine Science…that God, Spirit, is All-in-all.” (S&H 275:6) This spiritual understanding of God’s allness is “the heaven within us,” (Miscellany 260:21) and writes our names in heaven. This is the cause for rejoicing.

I rejoice for this blessed Christian Science that we’ve been taught here, “because of the heaven within us,” and to know that it is available for all mankind.
