Rewards According To Motives

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

SH 14 The Father in secret is unseen to the physical senses, but He knows all things and rewards according to motives, not according to speech. (e.a)
This aught to give man pause; that it is not so much what comes out of our mouths but the motives in our hearts that count, since no one is fooling God who knows all things. If our motives are to do God’s will and to please Him, they will have their just rewards; this is something powerful to check with to keep our motives pure!

Thank you Florence for the comment above, it is true that many times what we speak is not what we truly feel in our hearts. We speak with a “forked tongue” and many times this leaves us feeling unsettled, sad, guilty etc., as you correctly point out above, “no one is fooling God” and He will certainly let us know one way or another. Thank you for your reminder.

Since God is Truth, falsehoods, His opposites make us unsettled! The conflict in what we think or our motives and the lies we talk create a friction enough for us to feel bad… It is a good thing because it helps us check and be honest. Thank God!
