Spirituality not Sensuality

The Forum is dedicated to each week's lesson, and may be used to post questions, comments, and constructive replies that strive to uncover the inspired meaning of the text. The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible; make two short postings of the long posts or send the lengthy ones for publication in our Magazine or Newsletter. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Thanks to the Lesson writer for the citations from Science and Health, pgs. 51 and 52, which clearly distinguishes what Jesus was about in his mission and how that contrasts so sharply from the wrong beliefs and attitudes of the self-righteous:

    From Webster’s 1828
    SPIRITUALITY, noun
    1. Essence distinct from matter; immateriality. If this light be not spiritual, it approacheth nearest to spirituality. 3. Spiritual nature; the quality which respects the spirit or affections of the heart only, and the essence of true religion; as the spirituality of Gods law.

    Unselfish
    Spirit his master
    Served God
    Pure affections
His spiritual senses drank in health, holiness and life
    His perfection and purity
His spirituality enabled Jesus to heal the sick.

    From Webster’s 1828
SENSUAL’ITY, noun Devotedness of the gratification of the bodily appetites; free indulgence in carnal or sensual pleasure.

    Selfish materialist
    Matter their master
    They served mammon
    Their affections were carnal
Their senses testified oppositely, and absorbed the material evidence of sin, sickness, and death.
    Their imperfections and impurity
Their sensuality which couldn’t heal anything.
