The First Commandment

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

Mark 12 – Which is the first commandment of all?

29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

In working with this citation where the Christ called us to the second Commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves reminds me of our Plainfield Independent Church that does fulfill this Commandment. While covering this topic in our Bible studies I often thought of what Christ Jesus said. There is no greater demonstration of this Commandment than the Watches that are done that protect and heal all mankind. I also pay attention to trusting God and even pray to keep my covenant with Him to love Him with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I ask to see if there is a “neighbor” in need. I am also learning that He will guide me in the details of my life.
