"the first duty"

We gladly welcome your comments on our Forum and Bulletin Board but we do maintain the right to edit and/or take down anything we feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible; make two short postings of the long posts or send the lengthy ones for publication in our Magazine or Newsletter. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“You will learn that in Christian Science the first duty is to obey God, to have one Mind, and to love one another.”

This sentence stood out to me because I grew up in Science… and yet…. I was in the dark. I had no idea what it really meant to be obedient; I had no clue about the difference between the one Mind and the human mind; and I had little understanding of what it truly meant to “love one another”. I must say that after coming here to Plainfield and getting correct teaching on Christian Science–I would even say, some much-needed “tough love”–this one short sentence in Science & Health now makes sense to me. It came alive for me; they were no longer words I just glossed over. This was a seismic shift for me and I can’t thank the teachers here enough!
