"When we come to have more faith…"

The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

“When we come to have more faith in the truth of being than we have in error, more faith in Spirit than in matter, more faith in living than in dying, more faith in God than in man, then no material suppositions can prevent us from healing the sick and destroying error.” (S&H 368:14)

I read somewhere several years ago that this was Mrs. Eddy’s favorite passage in Science and Health. I’ve always loved it, but this morning I took it deeply into my heart.

Mrs. Eddy does not write “if,” but “when.” Webster (1828) defines “when” as, “at the time when; what time; and WHEN as sacred light began to dawn.” This ties in so beautifully with the Lesson this week, — the light of Truth casting out darkness.

I’m asking myself now, do I have more faith, — more trust — in Truth, in Spirit, in Life? And most importantly, more faith in God than in man — that is, in any personal sense of man, of me, of a life and mind separate from God? That is the faith I need to demonstrate now. Now is the time; now is the “WHEN.” Thank you for this timely Lesson.
