The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

In working for the approaching storm, the thought came to me that “the power of God dissipates any storm of discontent.” And wouldn’t that seem to be encircling the world right now. But it has no energy, no power—and it certainly can’t organize. The truth is that man, as God’s child, is contented, satisfied, and peaceful—and that is all that can be made manifest in the atmosphere. “In atmosphere of Love divine, we live, and move, and breathe” (Hymn 144). That holy atmosphere—the only place we live—cannot be disrupted by any false storm of discontent! God IS the only power!!

Thank you–wonderful! And I also love the end of the verse that says, “These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.” No matter how long we may have been in that darkness, God will never forsake us. Anyone who reaches out for the Light will find it—it’s there for everyone!

That’s a really good point. I know in the past—and sometimes even now if I foolishly let my guard down–when something appeared to be wrong, I’ve wondered what it is, where did this thing come from, what did I do to let it in, and then fear creeps in. But instead, we need to see it as an outlaw—it has no law to support it, all the law that exists is against it, and it can’t do a thing! Slam the door on it by turning wholeheartedly to God and His truth—then it can’t cause any trouble. After all, it’s nothing but an outlaw to be banished!

That’s a good point—where are we looking for perfection? We’ll never find it in matter. But when we faithfully correct our thinking, replacing the false picture that may be in front of us with the truth about God’s creation, that will out-picture itself and what we have, and are, will be beautiful and glorious—we’ll see the perfection that’s always been there.

This makes me think of Frances Thurber Seal’s book Christian Science in Germany. She had only been in Christian Science about a year and was asked by her teacher to bring Christian Science to Germany. She did not know the language, but obediently went–and every word she spoke was understood! This is proof that they were all “taught of God”–they did not understand each other humanly, but God provided the spiritual understanding. No one is ever left out!

I love the thought of keeping our motives pure. I read something a while ago that I’ll never forget: “Are you doing this to make yourself look good, or to make God look good?”
I think of that often during the day—if there’s any thought of “me” in what I’m doing, I know I’m getting off the track. Everything we do should be to show God’s goodness, His kindness, His accuracy, His intelligence, and so on. And when it’s finished, be sure to give God the credit, and thank Him!

One thing that has helped me to keep my thought focused on the things of God is to leave a copy of Science and Health or Prose Works on a table or counter, and every time I pass by, I pop it open at random and read whatever my eyes fall on. That has been a big help to keep my thought grounded and to make sure that only the Word of God is in my thinking, as I ponder what I just read. Then any thought contrary to the right becomes offensive and more easy to reject. This is better exercise than going to the gym!!
