The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.

We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!

I love the idea of doing even the smallest things to the glory of God. It’s such a practical idea. Thank you.

I did think my suggested way of praying would aid in countering the belief/dream of many minds that could be thinking wrongly. Was this approach unscientific, or misguided in some way, or did I not make it clear?

“And David enquired at the LORD, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them?” (I Samuel 30:8) I love that at this point in his experience David knew to turn to God for direction first, in this case kind of asking is this the wisest course, will this bring about the best results? What a wonderful example of how to live one’s life. Thanks for the wonderful in depth posts about it.

Yes, what a lively, helpful, succinct idea to keep handy, that aging (or age) is strength and wisdom. Thank you! It agrees perfectly with Mrs. Eddy’s thoughts on age recently included on the carousel.

I love this story. It certainly should have been humbling to Balaam as well as evidencing the intelligence and value of the ass.

Looks like I missed the point here. To hear a discussion as to why Elisha chose not to accept anything from Naaman listen to today’s (4-10-2016) Roundtable.

I’d like to add that the prophet discerned that it was too holy an occasion to receive material gifts, II Kings 5:26.

I love Joseph’s words, “God shall give Pharoah an answer of peace.” Years ago I was so perplexed by this, wondering how Joseph could know the interpretation would be an answer of peace before he knew the interpretation (actually before he even knew the dream). It was a couple of years later when it suddenly struck me that God’s answer is always an answer of peace. How beautiful that is and how patiently we must sometimes wait for an answer to our questions.

Mary Beth’s post about envy is quite a wakeup call. I don’t think I ever before recognized how serious it is, and sometimes it comes in subtle, or what appear at first to be harmless forms. In searching Science and Health I found that Mrs. Eddy groups envy with some very Godless traits, for example, “Falsehood, envy, hypocrisy, malice, hate, revenge, and so forth, steal away the treasures of Truth” (SH 241:9-11) and in further support of how serious, “Man’s enslavement to the most relentless masters — passion, selfishness, envy, hatred, and revenge — is conquered only by a mighty struggle.” (SH 407:6-8)

Thanks for your post about finding inspiration during your watches. I have been feeling quite stuck thinking they must be done a certain way. Clearly they do not, at least not as I have been believing.

This is a very powerful, even shocking, story with, as Gary has so thoroughly expressed, many important lessons. One essential factor about honesty in the practice of Christian Science, included in the lesson, is that honesty is required for the spiritual sense of truth to be gained, so pretty crucial.
I am grateful, though, that God “will have all men to be saved,” even the Ananiases, Sapphiras, and Judases among us.

Nice expansion on Mrs. Eddy’s statement. Another way to think of side effects of Truth is that there are many. They are just all good.

These ideas on purpose seem to fit in with a gradually growing desire of mine to be a blessing, even a healing influence in the world. In thinking about right motives this morning, I was reminded of Mrs. Eddy’s words in Science and Health, “Consecration to good does not lessen man’s dependence on God, but heightens it.” Helpful to remember when I start stumbling around a bit in my efforts. I too long thought Christian Science was about making my human experience better.

Thanks for this helpful post. The idea, “by him all things consist,” had intrigued me, but I hadn’t gone very far with it, and had found a more limited definition. Wonderful inspiration as to how it applies to our world as well.
