The Bulletin Board is for gratitude for Christian Science and the Church, as well as timely excerpts from the Bible, the works of Mrs. Eddy, and the early workers that help and encourage. We are very grateful for all posts that conform to these guidelines, but will edit or remove anything that the Practitioners feel is not in complete accord with pure Christian Science or in any way disrespectful of it.
We also ask that you keep your postings as concise as possible. If you quote the Bible, please use The King James Version, as this is what Mrs. Eddy used. Thank you!
Thank you for this post!! It is very helpful and comforting!
Thank you, Jeremy! This is such a helpful post and is giving me lots to think about!!
Thank you, Bruce.
This is very helpful. Just the other day, I shared the truths about God and Christian Science with a friend and her child who is having some issues and fear is definitely in the mom’s thought. Understanding to “cut off the parent thought” makes all the difference in my prayers for them and for me to know the Truth of all God’s children as his individual reflex image of himself without influence from anything else. Eternal Love and goodness permeates all and is all Life!
Thank you for this post.
Thank you for this helpful clarification!
Thank you, Debra for posing this question and to Parthens for the two references. I am finding them very helpful. I am so grateful that those who have a deeper understanding of Christian Science share ideas here at the Plainfield Christian Science Church, Independent in all formats, such as this forum and wonderful website and all of the powerful services offered here. We are all awakening to Truth and its wonderful! Thank you all!
Thank you, Marybeth for this post! I feel this divine message coming from God through Christ Jesus, through Mrs. Eddy, through you to bless us. I am grateful.
I also want to give thanks for the “Love is the Liberator” Magazine- March issue on Employment. I am finding the following articles especially helpful at this time: “Excerpts from ‘Finance'” by Bicknell Young and “From Mrs. Eddy Ninety-First Psalm” and also “Possession” both written by Mary Baker Eddy. This magazine is filled with Love!! Also, the painting by Luanne is simply awesome! It expresses grace, beauty, tenderness, Love, spiritual peace, gentleness and purity and so much more. To me, it represents the “Kingdom of Heaven” here on earth. Thank you.
Thank you so much for these helpful ideas! I keep telling myself- “Love is the substance of thought.” So, when I get afraid, I can correct my thinking and tell myself – No! “Love is the substance of thought.” This quick response is helping me to think on the right side. True thoughts!!
Thank you so much for this posting, Jeremy! It is beyond beautiful and I love the way you tie Life, Truth and Love together, relating it to our own journey, reflecting Love in our own special way which blesses all.
Michael,
I was just going to post some thoughts on today’s Bible Study on Noah and you summed it up so beautifully in these two posts. Thank you so much! I will listen to these wonderful and wise ideas and apply them in my experience.
Many thanks!!
“Mary Baker Eddy Christian Healer” Amplified Edition by Yvonne Cache’ von Fettweis and Robert Townsend Warneck Audio Edition
Mrs. Eddy wrote the following to two students who gave her a copy of Wyclif’s Translation of the New Testament:
“Today, it is a marvel to me that God chose me for this mission; and, that my life work was the theme of ancient prophecy; and I, the scribe of His infinite way of salvation. Oh, may He keep me at the feet of Christ; cleansing the human understanding and bathing it with my tears, wiping it with the hairs of my head, the shreds of my understanding that God numbered to make men wise unto salvation.”
(I have this as an audio book and so, I punctuated this quote as best I could.)
I am in awe of Mrs. Eddy’s great Love and humility.
Thank you, Susanne! This is awesome! I know that I do this and it brings it right to my attention so I can stop focusing on the physical “clamoring” that seems to be there. I appreciate your sharing of this revelation with us.
Thank you Florence and Michael,
Your comments and are very, very helpful to me. I like the idea of writing these ideas out… many times to really cement these ideas in my thinking.
For example,
“KNOWING that evil (the false claims) do not exist and therefore cannot harm me or make me afraid. As one writer puts ‘if something does not exist how can it harm or frighten me?”’
“So, instead of blaming those around me I have to stay righteous because it will have a negative effect not only to those around me, but to the ‘children unto the third and fourth generation.'”
I am going to write these out now…thanks!!
I also would like to express my gratitude for the heartfelt Sunday Services, the morning Lesson Sermon on Christ Jesus and the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. All who participated made this Christmas a very happy and memorable one for me. These services demonstrate the Love that God is. Far reaching across the globe through the YouTube and internet services, you have touched the hearts of all mankind. God’s love is felt throughout this Church. The music, singing and the readings are filled with unspeakable love and joy! It is felt beyond measure. I especially loved Darius’ opening introduction to “Away in the Manger” and the glorious chiming bells. They touched my heart.
This Church and all its members are such a blessing and I am so grateful to God that he has led me here.
Hi Sharon,
Thank you for sharing this with us. As I have been reading the lesson this week, I am so moved and inspired by Jesus’ Life. Although he was endowed with the Spirit more than others, he didn’t just rest on that and do nothing. He humbly worked to learn the Scriptures and to be the son that God wanted him to be. He studied and demonstrated the healing that made the prophesies come to life for all mankind to see and rely on. He met and mastered all sin and left his work for us to be blessed with. Love is All as Jesus showed us. We are so blessed by his birth into this world..
Thank you both for these insightful remarks. It helps me to stay grounded in God and the Truth that God governs and controls all things real. And, God’s way is always the best and most loving way in all situations. For me, this right sense of things helps release a false sense of responsibility. If every moment I remember to put it all in God’s hands and listen for his directions, it fills me with joy and confidence! Much gratitude for this!!
I also want to express my thanks and gratitude to Florence for this article. The article itself is such a blessing.
This Church is the precious gift from God to humanity today. The Love and Soul expressed here radiates out unceasingly. This Church expresses God’s ideas from the center out into infinity and are as perfect and loving as God is. This Church, founded on Love, supports all who come for healing.
I am so grateful to God that he brought me here.
Mary Baker Eddy Her Spiritual Footsteps Chapter 9 pg 28. by Gilbert C. Carpenter and Gilbert. C Carpenter Jr.
Thank you so much, Parthens for this clear distinction and explanation. I came across this today and thought I might share it with you.
After Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter had a visit with Mary Baker Eddy on April 27, 1906, Mrs. Carpenter wrote down this unfoldment from a Bible lesson (Luke 9:56) given to them by Mrs. Eddy. This is a partial quote:
“Now we have got to get out of this house (mortal habitation). What holds us in it, pleasure or pain? The pleasures of sense hold us, not the pain of sense. I’ve got to get out of this old woman and you, Mrs. Carpenter, have got to get out of this young woman. Is this mortal existence real? No. Is there any mortal man? No. It is only the Adam-dream. Is it real, then? No. Then, is there any pain? No. Then we are out of it now.”
The next excerpt relates to another Bible lesson given by Mrs. Eddy on September 24, 1903: ( Also on pg.28)
“When you are on the housetop, don’t go down to take anything out of the house.’ I am a great way out of the house (body) and it will not do for me to go down into the house (argument); I gain more by holding to God; if you are in the house you will have to heal others (argue), and so get out of the house.”
I can see that Mrs. Eddy was urging her students to leave the mortal sense of existence for the spiritual sense of existence. In doing so, we don’t lose anything real, but gain everything that is real and lose only that which is unreal and unworthy of our attention.
“
Thank you, Marybeth, for highlighting this statement.
I also read in Essays and Other Footprints (the Red Book), by Mary Baker Eddy pg.89:
“The power of right thought is the thinking of that thought. I have perfect confidence in my right thought for I know it can do everything for me. (A person can hold a thought not longer than three seconds; therefore we must repeat.)”
I can see that it is necessary to be alert to every thought and to correct our thinking to that which is true only. I am so grateful that we have been told the Truth about who we really are and what Life really is. We have been given the pathway of freedom from evil and we will claim the Truth and our freedom now with joy, energy and vitality!!
Thank you so much for this, Mary Beth! After the Bible Study and Roundtable discussions over the weekend, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude like I’ve never felt before. I am so blessed to be able to join these meetings with you all. God so gently takes care of all of us! Thank you so much for the reference to Hymn #228…it is beautiful.
In following the line thought of nakedness and being clothed, I like the following passage from Revelation and the corresponding passage from Science and Health. The Truth that the real man is clothed with the sun or embraced in eternal light and Love… I find so comforting. I feel the warmth. presence and protection of Divine Love for all mankind.
SH 560:6-9 Revelation xii. 1.” And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.”
“The Revelator saw also the spiritual ideal as a woman clothed in light, a bride coming down from heaven, wedded to the Lamb of Love. To John, “the bride” and “the Lamb” represented the correlation of divine Principle and spiritual idea, God and His Christ, bringing harmony to earth.”
SH 561:10-13
Thank you for this! This is an excellent explanation of our footsteps forward from a material sense to reality. I love what you said about ” The footsteps of thought”(SH 174)…” that lead me from the sleep of self-absorption to the place of radiation of the Christ-Light unconditionally.”
This means to me that we ought to reflect and radiate Love all the time. This is our savior. I am so grateful for this posting.
Thank you so much for this! It is very helpful to me.
Colleen
Thank you so much for this, Florence! What an awe inspired idea that we should behold of ourselves and others now!
Thank you.
Thank you, Gary for this explanation. I find it so helpful. To know that when we repent and stop the sin that there is no more penalty for it. For many years, I had been a binge drinker of wine and I was healed of this about 4 years ago. But, it my thought I always felt there may be a residual penalty to my health , in particular my vision. Since coming to this church and in studying Christian Science I understand this is only human belief and not true. But, it is reassuring to hear these words from you.
Thank you!
Colleen
Hi Linda,
I couldn’t agree more! I realize how much better work I need to do to pray for the world, the weather and for myself to see God’s face in all people and things. I can more clearly see that terrible storms and calamities are directly related to hate and malice. What a clear cut reminder to pray daily, not only with the Lesson and Daily duties, but studying the definition of man and the seven synonyms for God. Also, our duty to watch our thoughts to see all humanity as good and reflecting the Divine energy alone!
Thank you, Linda for all your beautiful thoughts that help inspire us all!
Colleen
Thank you for doing this research and posting the meaning of these words. I find it so very helpful and enriches my understanding of the message being conveyed.
Colleen
Thank you Spencel for this citation. It is very helpful. To look at the individual and not the personality takes practice. I’m just starting to get this idea. I can see the separation between that which is the true idea and the mask of personality in which evil hides behind.
Thank you so much!!
Colleen
